An Interface Engineer at Perpetual Next is responsible for coordinating the technical interfaces in all phases of our capital projects, from project development stage to detailed engineering (coordination) stage. You will work closely with the discipline engineers and package unit vendors to ensure the interfaces are recognised and managed. This means ensuring the design of each package unit is such that is seamlessly coordinates with the other packages and no gaps are left, either physically (piping, electrical and civil interfaces) or in the area of process control, automation etc.
Perpetual Next is looking for an Interface Engineer with a strong technical background and a proactive attitude, who notices interface related gaps before they occur and acts to resolve these before they become an issue. Someone who gets inspired by working in the dynamic environment that is typical for developing a first of a kind capital project.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The preferred candidate will be involved in the execution of the following activities.
Project Execution and Interface Coordination:
- Identifying, documenting and aligning the technical interfaces between various work packages as they exist on a project. This will mainly involve coordinating scope components between various suppliers, ensuring that these packages together cover the entire project scope and that the interfaces are well coordinated. The work includes both the engineering and the construction phase.
- Preparing and executing the interface engineering activities within the assigned technical project(s).
- Taking on the role of “system architect”, ensuring that the discipline packages are fully integrated in the overall project scope.
- Ensuring or monitoring compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Collaboration with the other discipline engineers, or engineering contractor (depending on project phase, or size). Depending on the experience level of the successful candidate, the function may evolve into a supervisory role.
Commercial aspects:
Identifying and timely reporting of financial consequences where interface issues are concerned (Management of Change)
Risk Management:
- Proactively responding to unexpected challenges.
- Identifying potential interface management risks, developing strategies to mitigate them and keeping the project engineering manager informed about these risks.
Documentation and reporting:
Maintaining an interface matrix and relevant technical files.
Quality Control and Reporting:
- Perform overall quality control of work (budget, schedule, plans, staff performance) and report regularly on project status.
- Aligning the engineering and construction schedules of the various suppliers with the overall project planning (depending on the project phase)
Stakeholder Management:
- Coordinate the collaboration between suppliers, the engineering contractor(s) and the internal teams.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with the project manager and other project participants to provide support and technical support.
- Assess technical deliveries and initiate appropriate corrective actions
Education:
A completed higher technical education (minimum) Bachelor B.Sc. in e.g. electrical engineering, process controls or automation, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering
Experience:
- 3-8 years experience in (interface) engineering, preferably at a first class engineering company.
- Proven work experience as a project (lead) engineer involved in (basic or detailed) engineering projects for the (chemical, petrochemical or oil & gas) industry or demonstrated ability and eagerness to learn the required skills.
- Experience in construction (assistance) or commissioning is a pre.
- Excellent knowledge of (the application possibilities of) design and visualization software such as AutoCAD, Matlab, Aspen+, HTRI etc.
- Familiar with software packages such as Office (Word, Excel)
