Carbon credits: CORCs CO₂ removal certificates

To realise the ambitions set in the Paris Climate Accords, it is not enough to lower emission of CO₂. It is also necessary to remove CO₂ that has already been emitted into the atmosphere.
But removing CO₂ from the atmosphere comes with a price tag. Carbon credits can help to make carbon removal initiatives economically feasible and scalable.

How are carbon credits generated?

CO₂ Removal Certificates (CORCs) are digital tradable carbon assets that confirm 1 tonne of CO₂ has been absorbed and stored in a carbon net-negative product. CORCs are issued for only the extra carbon absorbed after a third party verification of the product has proven that it is carbon net-negative from cradle-to-gate. This makes that the CORCs system is a verified solution for carbon removal that really makes impact for the long term.

Carbon credits trading and retirements
When carbon credits are issued for a certain project each tonne of CO₂ offset is individually identifiable with a unique number, vintage and project identity. Credits are traceable, tradable and finite: When they are purchased, they are retired forever.

Entities can neutralise, or offset, their emissions by retiring carbon credits generated by projects that are reducing GHG emissions elsewhere. Of course, it is critical to ensure, or verify, that the emission reductions generated by these projects are actually occurring. This is the work of the voluntary carbon schemes VCS Program – to ensure the credibility of emission reduction projects.

Perpetual Next competes in the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition

Out of 1,133 registered teams, we are thrilled and honored to have qualified as one of the Top 60 entries of the $100M XPRIZE Carbon Removal funded by Elon Musk and the Musk Foundation.

Perpetual Next is member of EBI

The European Biochar Industry Consortium (EBI) supports the development of biochar applications and fostering its long-term success.

Compared to its potential, biochar is still highly underrepresented in the overall awareness. Therefore EBI is focussing on key activities as policy, market Intelligence, communication and industry standards to promote this awareness.

Our biochar is EBC-certified

Perpetual Carbon is the trademark of our biochar. The material Perpetual Carbon biochar is EBC certified (European Biochar Certificate). It therefore meets the standard for high-quality renewable carbon. It therefore qualifies for carbon removal credits. These carbon credits are valuable for your organisation and for your customers, because they are proof of the reduction of your carbon footprint.

Our EBC Certificate can be found here.

Examples of applications

Biochar ADDCQUEST in the building industry

Carbon removal

Biochar ADDCQUEST can be used as an additive or pigment in building materials. By adding biochar to products such as facades, floor coverings or other building materials, you reduce the carbon footprint (1.4 - 2.7 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided per ton of biochar), and you reduce operational costs through the generation of carbon credits.

Biochar in building materials has even more advantages:

  • Moisture regulation, insulation, noise protection and binding of toxins
  • Protection against electromagnetic radiation and reduction of electrostatic charge
  • Anti-bacterial and air purifying

Biochar SOILCQUEST in agriculture

Carbon removal

Biochar SOILCQUEST reduces the carbon footprint for different types of farms. Our biochar can be used on all types of plants and crops, and for a wide variety of applications, such as flower beds, gardening, landscaping, organic farming and commercial horticulture.

  • Biochar contributes to the recovery of depleted soils by housing microorganisms and retaining water and nutrients in the soil for longer.
  • Biochar provides space and protection to regenerate soil life in agriculture, making our food healthier.
  • Biochar reduces ammonia emissions from manure and thus offers a solution to the nitrogen problem.

Explanation of our product codes

A coding system has been created to reference the range of applications and Perpetuals products.

PCX999S/ZYX:

  • The first 2 letters are referring to ‘’Perpetual Carbon’’.
  • The third letter refers to the function and main application (N = Net Zero, R = Reduction, A = Addcquest, etc).
  • The 3 digits refer to either (000-399) caloric value, or (400-999) to the carbon content (%).
  • The last letter of the main code refers to S = Standard, T = Tailored and P = Premium.
